242 games away

24 October 2009

total game count for the month is now 1023 which means i’m only 242 games away from reaching my goal of playing more than i have in any other month (in may i played 1264 games). my last 500 games netted me a profit of -$177, unfortunately, so i’m expecting an upswing pretty soon that should also make this my most profitable month. at the end of this month i’m going to take a day or two off, then grind hard before my trip back home for thanksgiving. so far i’ve been really disciplined about cashing out every 500 games and i could certainly use a couple ‘pay checks’ before then.

in other news, i’m incredibly tired of poker and look forward to the day i never have to play again. although i enjoy the game itself, everything that comes with it is a burden i desperately want to get rid of. things like the variance of downswings, the uncertainty of the uigea legislation (you can google ‘poker uigea’ if you want to know more about that), and most importantly, the view society has of someone who plays for a living, make this not worth it at all. i’ve never thought of myself as a ‘gambler.’ heck, i’ve never purchased a single lottery ticket in my life and my first time in a casino was to hear tower of power play a concert. but it becomes more and more clear everyday that other people (people who probably have bought a lottery ticket at some point in their lives) really don’t ‘approve’ of this and lay judgement. some people probably think i have a problem while others think i’m just a bad person. i guess the bright side is that when this part is over, and i’m able to get back to what i really want to do, i will know exactly who my real friends are.

i sincerely hope that by the time i leave LA, i am still the kind, considerate, non-judgemental person i’ve always been because one thing i have learned from this place is that the world just doesn’t need any more jerks.

and now, a picture of a puppy.

  1. sorry for the judgmental jerks. While you say that you need to take a break, and I can totally understand it, I am quite envious of you that you can play poker and live on that.

Games that take skill shouldn’t be gambling. It should be a sport. Let’s ask the IOC if they will consider it for the next winter or summer games. Ok, 2012 o4 2014. 2010 is probably to close.
